The Journey of The Drum is a celebration of the artistic richess of Black America, Africa, India and Europe, and how their marriage produces beautifully timeless sounds.

Legendary American drummer Max Roach is well knows as one of the great innovators of the bebop era, a man who rethought the traditional role of his instrument, freeing it from 'straight' time keeping. He would go on to further develop the possibilities of the drum kit, and to do so he looked away from western music and towards India and Africa.

The Journey of The Drum retraces his steps and taps into the unlimited rhythmic genius found in traditions that are centuries old.
